Yanbu snorkeling: what to know first
Yanbu snorkeling means getting out to a reef, and that usually means a boat. The official destination page of Visit Saudi (updated 19 August 2026) presents Yanbu as a centre for underwater activities and names Seven Sisters as a reef destination. It does not promise visibility, wildlife or weather, and neither does this page.
Because the sea here is regulated, the practical questions come before the fun ones: who takes you, from where, with what equipment and with which permission. The sections below go through them in that order. If you also want to dive, our diving page has the course and centre details.

Snorkeling in Yanbu
One operator's example, not a market price.
A dive operator in Yanbu advertised snorkeling for October 2026 at 350 SAR per person and day, on weekend trips running on Fridays and Saturdays. Treat this as one example from one operator for one month, not as what snorkeling costs in town. The operator's trip list for October 2026 names Iona Wreck, Nemo Garden, Canyon, Seven Sisters and Abo Galawa as destinations, though these are mainly dive targets.
Ask in advance whether snorkeling equipment is included. Operators describe this differently, so the safe habit is to ask before you pay and to bring your own mask if you can. Trips can be cancelled or change destination when the weather is bad or when the coast guard has not issued the departure permit.
A snorkeling boat trip from Jeddah
This trip includes snorkelling equipment and a guide, but it departs from Jeddah, not from Yanbu.

Islands off Yanbu
Names, not timetables.
An official guide from 2022 names Oyster Island as a swimming and excursion destination. Whether the name, the site and the access are unchanged today is something to ask about locally. This page gives no ferry or departure times, and it does not claim that a public ferry exists or does not exist.
Al Nawras Island is a different case. SPA described in 2021 a bridge of roughly 500 m that connects it to the waterfront of Yanbu Industrial City, so it is not only a boat destination. See the beaches page for details.
Private boats and permits
What the regulator says and what an operator quotes.
Private boat example
One operator quoted 3,000 SAR per boat for 1 to 5 divers in October 2026, plus 490 SAR for each additional diver. This is a private diving boat offer, not a ferry fare and not a price per island visitor.
Island permits
The Saudi regulator SRSA explains that individual islands need permits or accredited accompaniment because of their ecological sensitivity. There is no general permission to land, camp, fish or fly a drone on every island.
Protected areas
In protected marine areas, anchoring, navigation and other activities are prohibited or need a permit. The exact boundaries off Yanbu are not given here, so ask your operator which areas apply.
Accredited centres
For diving from yachts, SRSA points to accredited dive centres. This does not create a personal snorkeling licence for a beach visit.
Snorkeling trip from Jeddah
Departs from Jeddah, not from Yanbu.
One snorkeling boat trip is offered from Jeddah. It lasts 300 minutes and includes snorkeling equipment, a guide, snacks and soft drinks. It is rated 5.0 from 5 reviews at the time of writing. The meeting point is given at booking.
Jeddah lies roughly 3.5 hours by road from Yanbu according to a guide from 2022, and the drive time for 2026 is open. So this is a Jeddah excursion for someone already based there, not a Yanbu day out. If you are staying in Yanbu, see getting there for the road options and tours for the other excursions.
Wherever you go, the sea does not follow a timetable. Pick the cooler part of the year for outdoor time; the weather page has the long-term climate averages. No page can promise what you will see in the water.
Frequently asked questions
Is snorkeling equipment included?
It depends on the operator and the trip. Ask before you pay. The snorkeling boat trip from Jeddah lists snorkeling equipment among its inclusions.
Can I take a ferry to an island from Yanbu?
No timetable is given here. Ask locally about boats and permits. Al Nawras Island is reached by a bridge from the waterfront according to SPA (2021).
Can I land or camp on any island?
No general permission exists. Individual islands need permits or accredited accompaniment, and protected areas have their own limits.
Is this the official website of Yanbu?
No. This is an independent guide, not the website of Visit Saudi, the Saudi Tourism Authority, RCJY or the Yanbu airport.
