Yanbu airport and the other ways in
The airport for Yanbu is the Prince Abdulmohsin bin Abdulaziz International Airport. The airport operator lists it among its international airports, so older descriptions that call it a purely regional field are out of date. The other ways to reach Yanbu Saudi Arabia are by road: from Medina, which lies inland in the same region, and from Jeddah further south along the Red Sea coast.
Yanbu is spread out. The old town sits in Yanbu al-Bahr in the north, Yanbu Industrial City lies south of it, and Yanbu al-Nakhl is in the east. Where you arrive matters less than how you get around afterwards, which is why car rental gets its own section below. If you already know your area, the where to stay page explains the three parts of town.

Taxi and transfer from Yanbu Airport (YNB)
Plan the last leg before you land.
After landing you will need to get to your area of Yanbu by taxi or by a pre-booked transfer. Fares, availability and waiting times are not something we can quote, so settle the price with the driver or the transfer company before you get in, and agree whether it is per car or per person. If your accommodation says it offers a pickup, ask for that in writing instead of assuming it.
Tell the driver which part of Yanbu you are going to. Yanbu al-Bahr, the Industrial City and al-Nakhl are different areas, and a street name without the district can lead to a long detour. Keep the address in Arabic on your phone if you can. If your flight is delayed, let the transfer company know so the booking does not lapse.
Car rental and parking
Why most visitors end up behind a wheel.
Yanbu is easiest to explore by car. The old town in Yanbu al-Bahr, the Industrial City with its waterfront, the beaches and the palm oases of al-Nakhl lie apart from each other, and the connections from Medina and Jeddah are road routes. Without a car you depend on taxis for every move between areas, which adds up over several days.
Before you book, read the rental terms for the driving licence you need, the insurance cover, the fuel policy and what happens if you return the car in another place. Daily rates, one-way fees and age limits differ between companies and change over time, so compare the full conditions rather than the headline rate. Check that the vehicle suits the roads you plan to take.
For parking, look at the signs on the spot and ask your accommodation what applies on its street. In the old town the lanes are narrow, so leave the car on a larger street and walk in. Do not park where barriers or signs tell you not to, since ignoring barriers is part of the public decency rules.

Medina to Yanbu by road and bus
The inland route runs about 230 km.
By car, the trip from Medina to Yanbu is about 230 km and takes roughly 2.5 hours, according to a tourism description of the route. That is a plain route description without a date, so allow extra time for traffic, fuel stops and the check-in at your destination.
Bus line NW22 connects the Al Madinah Bus Station at Jabal Ohud, Badr, the Yanbu RCJY Station and the Yanbu Bus Station. The April 2026 timetable is useful as a planning example. It is not the October timetable, and you should read the current one from the operator before you travel.
| Direction | Departures | Arrivals |
|---|---|---|
| Medina to Yanbu Bus Station | 01:30, 07:15, 13:00, 18:30 | 05:05, 10:50, 16:35, 22:05 |
| Yanbu Bus Station to Medina | 00:30, 07:30, 12:30, 17:30 | 04:05, 11:05, 16:05, 21:05 |
Planned travel time in this example is 3 hours 35 minutes from Medina. Pick the right stop in Yanbu: the RCJY Station and the Bus Station are two different stops with their own times, and mixing them up can cost you a connection. If you want to see Medina and Yanbu on one trip, the guided two-day tour with intercity transfers listed above is one option. It includes a tour guide and entrance tickets, and pickup is in Medina according to the tour title. Check what it says about meals and accommodation before you book.
Jeddah to Yanbu by road
A road trip guide from 2022 gives about 3.5 hours for the drive between Jeddah and Yanbu. Treat that as a rough figure: the start point, stops and traffic change the time, and the 2026 journey may differ. Plan a full travel day if you also have to collect luggage or a rental car in Jeddah first.
Do not assume a direct bus with a fixed stop. If you rely on public transport from Jeddah, look up the current options before you leave and keep a taxi or transfer as a fallback.
Visa before you travel
Most visitors need a tourist eVisa before they fly. The rules, the passport validity and the dress code are on the visa and rules page. Apply early and read the conditions on the official eVisa portal, since a visa does not guarantee entry at the border.
Flight disruptions in October 2026
Read the current advice before you book and again before you leave.
The German Federal Foreign Office has issued a travel warning for Saudi Arabia, valid since 29 October 2026 (status 31 October 2026). It describes attacks and considerable risks for air traffic, and it has mentioned the province of Medina since early September.
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office named Yanbu in its advice of 27 October 2026, in connection with a higher threat to ports and energy infrastructure. It warns of further disruption and flight cancellations, and advises against all but essential travel to the rest of the country. The two offices word their advice differently, so read both. The UK office also notes possible Hajj-related flight and entry restrictions for Jeddah, Medina and Taif.
We cannot tell you that any route is safe or that the airport is open on a given day. Check the latest notices before you book and before you leave, and read the cancellation terms of flights, transfers and tours.
